Operculated holes are round holes with an obvious overlying piece of circular retinal tissue. These should be distinguished from round holes commonly seen in lattice degeneration due to the variable risk of retinal detachment (relatively lower for opercular holes versus round holes in lattice degeneration).
In this image a free floating operculum (green arrow) can be noted with an underlying operculated retinal hole (blue arrow). Some spontaneous pigment mottling can be noted around the retinal hole and a Weiss Ring (yellow arrow) from a posterior vitreous detachment can also be seen.
