Angioid streaks can be associated with a variety of systemic diseases and can also increase the risk of choroidal neovascular pathology
Angioid streaks (blue arrows) can be noted as reddish-brown lines emanating from the optic nerve head. They represent breaks in Bruch’s membrane and are commonly associated with systemic diseases (pseudoxanthoma elasticum among others). On autofluorescence these streaks can be noted as hypoautofluourescent areas. Furthermore, autofluorescence imaging often aids with visualization in more subtle cases.
