EyeCarePD Newsletter – April 4, 2016

From our April 4th, 2016 newsletter.

Last week was fun. Thanks to all of you that attended my most recent lecture at my clinical office, Eye Health MD, in Montreal. There continues to be a great deal of interest in learning about OCT interpretation even from my colleagues that do not yet own an OCT! As a brief recap, on Tuesday March 29 I discussed an overview of the value of using “more than a PDF” when you do your OCT interpretations. The key points are: A combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis is important
  • Qualitative: View all the cuts prior to making a decision
  • Quantitative: Verify for segmentation errors prior to relying on the maps

Tip

I have the segmentation lines visible when I begin my interpretation to assure accurate maps. Then I remove the segmentation lines when I do my qualitative interpretation. Why? Because on occasion the segmentation lines can interfere with your visualization of subtle pathology; this is particularly important at the vitreoretinal interface.
