43-year-old man with no known past medical history presents for a routine eye exam. Ancillary testing is performed including glucose levels which confirms the clinical suspicion of diabetic retinopathy. Masquerading and undiagnosed pathology represents a unique challenge. The optometrist had the patient see a walk-in clinic doctor to commence evaluation while awaiting ophthalmic consultation with a retina specialist. This is how a team is supposed to work!
